INTRODUCTION

I am a descendant of David C. Claxton who was born, raised, and lived most of his life in middle Tennessee. My mother was a Claxton, daughter of Ben Wesley Claxton, son of James Abram Claxton, son of James J. Claxton, son of David (My GGG-Grandfather). I was raised in Texas and was around my grandfather, Ben Claxton, for many years. All I knew about his family roots was he was born in Milam Co, TX and his father, James Abram Claxton, was born in TN and moved to Milam Co. when he was of age. Ben's father, James, died young at the age of 35 in TX when Ben was 9 yrs. old. Ben and his four siblings were raised by their mother and her parents on a farm in Milam Co. Later, Ben and his mother moved to Rotan, TX (in West Texas) where they lived the rest of their lives.

Since 1998, off and on, I have researched my Claxton line through libraries, cemeteries, interviewing related families, gathering family stories/records, and collecting photos. My goal was to have more of a story than just a collection of names and dates. After several years, I finally asked myself, what do I do with all this information? My answer was to share it with all who are interested in David Claxton and his children.

I have tried very hard to make this record as complete and accurate as possible. I have found errors in official documents, in publications, in newspaper articles, on cemetery markers, and, in family stories. Not all family records agree, so discrepancies will be found and errors will occur in the copying of information. I've tried to make a note when they occur but if I missed some, it was unintentional. I would appreciate any corrections and additions.
