Zachariah was often referred to as "Zack" and/or Zachary Taylor.  There are a few discrepancies on Zack's death certificate when compared to census records.  Information provided by Zack's parents to census takers show Zack was born in 1852, not 1850 as reported by his granddaughter on his death certificate.  Zack was 19 when he married in 1871, but he reported his age as 21 and Nancy was 26.  Then on the 1910 census, his birth was reported as 1852.  His place of birth was reported as Bedford Co., TN most likely because David's other family members were from Bedford Co.  It is believed that when David moved to Montgomery Co., TN and started a new family, he never returned to Bedford Co.  Also, it is well documented that David was born in Wilson Co., TN, not VA.

He moved to AR with his parents, David and Eliza, in the 1850s. In June 1860, David, Eliza, and Zack were living in the northeast corner of AR in Lawrence Co., David, 60, was working as a farm laborer in the Duty Township. This was the last known record on David. In Jun 1870, Eliza and Zack (without David) were living in the Mill Creek Township of Newton Co., AR. According to government maps, Mill Creek Township is the area east of Hwy. 7 between Jasper and Yardelle. Eliza was keeping house and Zack, age 17, was working as a farm laborer. (It is interesting to note that the farm owners next to them were from TN. In fact, the majority of farm owners in the Mill Creek area were from TN). In Aug 1880, Zack and Nancy Caroline are married with two children and Eliza, age 73, was living in the household and listed as a widow. Eliza died 14 Aug 1885 and was buried on the farm in Mill Creek Township in an area called P.D. Flat.

Nancy was the daughter of John “Prairie John” Eoff and Charity Nichols from TN who moved to Boone Co., AR prior to 1843. Nancy was from a family of ten children. John Eoff was born 31 Oct 1823 in TN and died 14 Oct 1875. He was buried in the Holmes Cemetery, Boone Co., AR. Nancy's mother was born 20 Mar 1827 in TN and died 20 Jun 1909 in Blanket, Brown Co., TX.  She was buried in the Blanket Cemetery.  Some members of Nancy's family remained in AR and others moved to Blanket, Brown Co., TX.

Records indicate that Zack and his family moved to the Richland Township in the 1890s to the area of Spence (later renamed Lurton). This area is in the southeast part of Newton Co. (present day Ozark National Forest). All census records show Zack as a farmer. A newspaper article, "Arkansas State Gazetteer", dated 1898, listing the nine business people of Spence named him as a blacksmith. A book, Newton County Family History, Vol. 2, 1999, by the Newton County Historical Society, Jasper, AR states that he owned Zachary Taylor Claxton’s sawmill. According to AR land records, (U.S. Dept. of Interior, Bureau of Land Management) Zack purchased 40 acres on 16 Oct 1888 in Newton Co., most likely his saw mill property. Marriage records show that at least three of Zack and Nancy's children (John, James, and Eller) married in Spence. Family sources state that Eller met her husband, Charley Adams, while he was working at Zack's sawmill in Spence. On 1 Feb 1901 Zack received a land grant of 160 acres. His son John, received a land grant on the same date of 160 acres. Another son, James, received his homestead grant 31 Aug 1905 of 160 acres. Eller's husband, Charley Adams, also received a land grant 30 Aug 1904 of 135.75 acres. It's unclear if this land was to be used for timber for the saw mill, but all of this land was in the same section of Newton Co.

In 1910 Zack and Caroline were back in the Mill Creek Township, and, Charley and Eller Adams were living there as well. Both families owned their farms.

According to a grandson, John H. Claxton, Jr, all of Zack’s family, except for their daughter Eller, moved to OK near the AR border in 1908. Census shows two sons, John and James, and their families in Cherokee Co., OK in 1910. Zack and other family members were still in AR in 1910, but moved later. Eller and Charley Adams remained in Newton Co. Zack settled in an area called Goingsnake Town about five miles west of Westville, Adair Co., OK in the eastern Cherokee Nation. According to History of Adair County, Zack owned and operated a grist and saw mill. Family sources state that Zack purchased one of the two Goingsnake courthouses and converted it to a saw mill. Zack and Nancy died in this area of Adair Co. and were buried in the Ketcher Cemetery, about five miles west of Westville, OK. Their graves are located in the far right corner of the cemetery and are covered with concrete slabs.

John, Jr. said he remembered his grandfather Zack, when he lived in Westville, OK. Zack in the late 1920s, after the death of Nancy, lived with his granddaughter Della Adams Bass and her family. Zack was in very poor health, most likely diabetic, and lost the use of both legs. His legs were supported by a wooden "V" wrapped with rags soaked with water and/or medicine. John, Jr. said the infection most likely killed him.

[Note:  I have corresponded with family members who have mentioned that they have been told that this family descends from Indian blood lines.  This is definitely not the case in the Claxton line and I have found no evidence to support this story in the Eoff family.  I have also been told that Zack had a great fear and dislike of Indians.  Because of this, he did not move to the Cherokee Nation, Adair Co., OK with his children in 1908.  He waited a few years before moving.  I was also told, because of this fear, he arranged to have Nancy and himself buried in concrete vaults to protect their remains.  I have found that Zack and Nancy's daughter, Della, married into Indian blood lines and her daughter, "Caroline," married a Cherokee.]

Zack and Nancy had eight children, four sons and four daughters, while living in Newton Co., AR. After moving to Adair Co., OK, the children moved to different areas.

John's middle name has been spelled in different ways. The most prevalent middle name has been Highempson, however, in my conversations with John Jr. he stated that that spelling was incorrect. He spelled both his and his father's middle name as Hyhempselle.

John was raised on the farm in Newton Co. and worked at his father’s sawmill. In 1894 he married (1) Ettie Overturf, age 15, at Spence Post Office in Newton Co. The identities of Ettie's parents are unproven as of this writing. John and Ettie lived and had their first six children in the Newton Co. area. According to a son, John Claxton, Jr., the family moved in 1908 to the Crittenden Township in Cherokee Co., OK. In 1911 John and Ettie were living in Wagoner Co., OK where Ettie died two days after the birth of their last child, Christopher. The baby died three days later and both were buried in the Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner, OK. John Claxton, Jr. stated that the death date on Ettie's headstone was wrong. Her death certificate shows she died on 4 May 1911, not 8 May 1911.

Again, according to his son, John did many different things while in Wagoner. He farmed, blacksmithed, repaired wagon wheels, and, ran produce wagons (mainly apples). After a few years, with a team of horses and mules, John and his three youngest children moved to Texas to work on the railroad. In Jan 1920, John with his three youngest children, Nora (15), Clarence (13), and Flora (11) were living in Blanket, Brown Co., TX. John married (2) Helen Rush Porter in 1920 in Gorman, Eastland Co., TX. Helen was born 18 Feb 1886 in Pontotoc, MS and died 22 May 1974 in Eastland Co. She was buried in the DeLeon Cemetery, De Leon, Comanche Co., TX. John and Helen moved to OK around 1922, lived in Adair Co., OK and later Wagoner. They had two children while in Adair Co. John and Helen later separated and she moved back to Texas with their daughter, Louise, to be near her family. John and his son, John, Jr., remained in OK.

"Carrie" married Emry Merrit Knight 21 Apr 1917 in Van Buren, Crawford Co., AR. Emry was born 22 Nov 1894 in Dora, Crawford Co., AR and died 4 Jan 1981 in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., AR. He was the son of Ruben Jacob "J. Cobb" Knight and Emaline Knight. "Carrie" died at the young age of 34.

[Note:  There is a discrepancy on the birth date of Emry.  On the 1900 census record, his father reported his birth as Nov., 1894.  Other census records support 1894-5 date.  WWII registration record shows 2 May 1895.  His grandson has stated that his birth date was 22 Nov 1892 and death 4 Jan 1981.  Social Security Death Index report his birth as 22 Nov 1894 and death June 1981.  His headstone shows the birth year 1895.  I have chosen the birth date reported by his father when Emry was five years old in 1900 and the date reported by Social Security.]

She married Elmer Foist Poor, Sr. 22 Dec 1934 in Van Buren, Crawford Co., AR. Elmer was born 3 Apr 1916 in Galena, Cherokee Co., KS and died 31 May 1996 in Fort Smith. Clarsie had to drop out of school at a young age (12) to care for her younger siblings until her father was released from jail a year later due to hardship. Clarsie met Elmer when he was a moonshine runner for her father. Elmer was in WWII and suffered wounds in the Battle of the Bulge and was the recipient of two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was also in the 42nd Rainbow Div. during the liberation of Jews from the German death camps. After the War, Elmer had his own trucking company and worked off and on for the Tankersly Co. in Fort Smith. Both were buried in the Hall Cemetery, Natural Dam, Crawford Co., AR. Clarsie and Elmer had seven children.

(8.2.1.2) Lenaird Merrit Knight was born 3 Jun 1921 in Crawford Co., AR and died 25 Feb 2012 in Fresno, Fresno Co., CA at the age of 90.  He married Edna Jean Denniston. Edna was born 28 Mar 1920 in AR and died 12 Dec 1993 in Fresno, CA. She was the daughter of Charles Oren Denniston and Eunice Edna Earp.  Lenaird was a retired welder for the Valley Foundry and Machine Works.  He, Edna and her parents were buried in the Washington Colony Cemetery in Fresno.  They had one known daughter.

(8.2.2) J.A. Claxton, [Sibling list] the second child of John Claxton and Ettie Overturf, was born 19 Dec 1897 and died an infant 20 Jul 1898 in Newton Co., AR. He was buried in the Tarlton Cemetery, Spence (Lurton), Newton Co., AR.

(8.2.4) Ora Lee Claxton, [Sibling list] [Photo Zack Family] [Photo with family] the fourth child of John Claxton and Ettie Overturf, was born 20 Mar 1902 in Harrison, Boone Co., AR and died 12 Dec 1965 in Prairie Grove, Washington Co., AR. Ora married Elbert S. Crussel 24 Sep 1918 in Adair Co., OK. Elbert was born 7 Nov 1886 in West Fork, AR and died on 22 Jan 1975 in Westville. Ora and Elbert lived their whole life in the Westville area. Elbert ran a small grocery store and farmed. Both were buried in the Westville Cemetery. They had seven known children, all born in Adair Co., OK.

(8.2.4.4) Alfred "Bud" Clarence Crussel was born 25 Apr 1928 and died 10 Dec 2007 in Stillwell, Adair Co., OK. Alfred owned and operated Crussel Service Station and Auto Parts in Westville for many years. He also farmed and raised cattle. He was buried in the Westville Cemetery.

(8.2.5) Nora Lee Claxton [Sibling list] [Photo Zack Family] [Photo with family] was born 16 Jan 1903 in Newton Co., AR and died 29 Dec 1993 in Port Neches, Jefferson Co., TX. There is a discrepancy in Nora's year of birth. The 1910 and 1920 census records show her year of birth as 1903. In 1930 it changed to 1906. Her death certificate and headstone (information given by her daughter, Lee) shows her birth as 1906. Since her brother, Clarence, was born 31 July 1906, the 1903 date is likely correct. Nora married (1) Francis M. Shorter about 1922 and they had two daughters while living in Wichita, Wichita Co., KS. Nora married (2) Glenn L. O'Neal about 1927 and they had two daughters. Nora later married (3) Thelmer Man "T Man" Perkins (AKA "Perk'). This was a second marriage for him. He was born 30 Aug 1910 in OK and died 18 Apr 1976 in Port Neches. Nora and "T Man" were buried in the Oak Bluff Memorial Park Cemetery in Port Neches.

(8.2.6) Clarence Claxton [Sibling list] [Photo with family] was born 31 Jul 1906 in AR and died 21 Jun 1999 in North Hills, Los Angeles Co., CA. Clarence and his wife were cremated. Their ashes were placed in an Urn Garden in San Antonio, TX. They had one daughter.

(8.2.8) Christopher C. Claxton [Sibling list] was born 2 May 1911 and died 7 May 1911. Christopher lived three days after his mother died. He was buried beside her in the Elmwood Cemetery, Wagoner Co., OK.

(8.2.9) John Hyhempselle Claxton, Jr. [Sibling list] was born 13 Nov 1923 in Westville, Adair Co., OK and died 30 Oct 2008 in Tulsa, Tulsa Co., OK. John married Marie M. Haney 13 Jun 1945. John served during WWII and was a retired pipe fitter superintendent. He was buried in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa. John and Marie had two sons.

CLAXTON - John H., Jr., passed away October 30, 2008. John was born on November 13, 1923, in Westville, OK. He served in the Naval Armed Guard during WWII. He married Marie M. Haney on June 13, 1945. A retired pipe fitter superintendent, he enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He is survived by: his wife, Marie; son, Lynn Claxton and wife Sherri; son, Mike Claxton and wife Kay; grandson, Bryan Claxton and wife Sarah; granddaughter, Deah Romo and husband Ian; great-grandson, Cohen Romo; and sister, Louise Hall. (8.2.10) Zelpha Louise Claxton [Sibling list] was born 13 Aug 1925 in Adair Co., OK. Louise married Archie Clyde Hall. Archie was born 2 Sep 1911 in Kaufman Co., TX and died 13 Jun 1990 in Gorman, Eastland Co., TX. Archie was the son of Robert Leroy Hall and Orpha Dean. Archie was a veteran of WWll as a U.S Army Tec 4. He was buried in the DeLeon Cemetery in DeLeon, Comanche Co., TX as were his parents. Archie and Louise had five known children.

Hinds was the son of James Andrew Odle and Susan Ellen Morris of Adair Co., OK. His parents were buried in the New Hope Cemetery, Chance, Adair Co. Hinds was born 11 Jan 1900 in Adair Co. and died in May 1986 in KS.

(8.4.2) Willie "Bill" Dee Claxton [Photo Zack Family] was born 22 Feb 1905 in Newton Co., AR and died 18 Dec 1997 in Modesto, Stanislaus Co., CA. Bill  married (1) Mollie Emma Skinner in 1927. Mollie was born 15 Apr 1911 in AR and died 18 Mar 1944 in Grayson, Stanislaus Co., CA.  She was the daughter of James Albert Skinner and Susan Alice Ramey. In 1930, Bill and Mollie were living with his parents in Coke Co., TX with their first two children.  In 1935 they were living in Newton Co., AR.  In 1940 the family was in Adair Co., OK and Bill was a blacksmith.  They moved to CA about 1942. Bill later married (2) Minnie Mabel Farris who was born 15 Feb 1903 in Windsor, MO and died 14 Nov 1992 in Modesto. This was also a second marriage for Minnie. Bill, Mollie, and Minnie were buried in the Turlock Memorial Cemetery in Turlock, CA. Bill and Mollie had four children.

(8.4.3) Samantha Claxton, [Sibling list][Marriage] the third child of "Jim" Claxton and Lou Slape, was born about 1907 in AR and died 1938 in OK. She married Benjamin "Bennie" Roy Moss 22 May 1924 in Adair Co., OK. Bennie was born in 1902 in OK and died 1958 in Adair Co., OK.  He was a blacksmith. According to John H. Claxton, Jr., Samantha died at a young age and he thought she was buried in Proctor, Adair Co. where they lived.  Samantha's headstone was found in the Sand Hill Cemetery in Newton Co., AR with the wrong year of birth. Her marker was made very similarly to her father's headstone. John also recalled that Bennie remarried and a few years later was shot by a young boy in Adair Co. He was buried in the Bell Cemetery, West Siloam Springs, Adair Co.  The 1930 and 1940 Adair Co. censuses show Samantha and Bennie had four children.

(8.4.4) George Zachariah Claxton [Sibling list] was born 19 Jan1912 in OK and died 8 Oct 1995 in Turlock, Stanislaus Co., CA. George married (1) Pearlie Ann McCutchen 8 May 1931 in Newton Co., AR. Pearlie was born 5 Dec 1911 and died after 3 years of marriage (age 23) on 3 Sep 1934 in Newton Co. She was buried in the Sand Hill Cemetery in Newton Co. George married (2) Vinia Ann Nunn 10 Jun 1935. Vinia was born 28 May 1919 in Miami, Ottawa Co., OK and died 24 Feb 2000 in Modesto, CA. George and Vinia were buried in the Turlock Memorial Cemetery in Turlock, CA. George and Pearlie had one daughter.  George and Vinia had seven known children.

Claud married (2) Margie Mayberry Farmer28 Nov 1950 in Boone Co.; that ended by divorce.  Margie was buried with her first husband in Carver Cemetery, Boone Co., AR.  Claud married (3) Gladys Irene Croucher Evans 14 Feb 1967. Gladys died 30 May 1994 in Libby, Lincoln Co., Montana and was buried in the Libby Cemetery. Claud was buried in the Sand Hill Cemetery in Newton Co. and Walsie was buried in the Carver Cemetery, Boone Co., AR. Claud and Walsie had six children.

(8.5.3) Floyd Adams [Sibling list] [Photo Zack Family] [Photo with brothers] [Photo with family] was born 15 Apr 1905 in Lurton, Newton Co., AR and died 10 Sep 1971 in Yardelle, Newton Co., AR from emphysema. Floyd married Oza Elizabeth Harper 10 Mar 1928 in Yardelle. Oza was born 24 Jan 1910 and died 3 Mar 1995 in Yardelle. Oza was the daughter of Samuel H. Harper and Amanda Elizabeth Braden. Floyd and Oza lived most of their lives in Yardelle. Floyd supported his family by farming and working the wheat fields of Kansas. After living in Kansas City for a short time, they returned to their farm in 1962. The farm was sold to their son, J. D., and Oza lived there until her death. Floyd and Oza were buried in the Sand Hill Cemetery in Newton Co. They had four children all born in Yardelle, AR.

He was the son of Sam Bass and Elizabeth Kelly Lamb. Zack lived with Dellar’s family in Westville, Adair Co., OK after the death of Nancy Caroline. They cared for Zack until his death in 1931. In 1941, Dellar and Frank moved their family to Strathmore, Tulare Co., CA. Both were buried in the Olive/Lindsay Cemetery in Tulare Co. They had four children.

Stella married (1) Henry "Pete" Anderson Raby; that ended by a divorce.  Pete was born 12 Feb 1889 and died 31 Mar 1976 in Yellville, Marion Co., AR.  He was buried in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Marion Co., AR.  Records show that Stella married [2] Charles Earl 4 Nov 1937 in Boone Co., AR and both were living in Hasty, Newton Co.  Stella later married [3] Harry E. Fisher on 22 Sep1947 in Boone Co.  Harry was born 23 Apr 1902 and died 9 Aug 1965 in Russellville, Pope Co., AR.  According to family sources, Harry was killed in a power plant explosion near Russellville. Stella and Harry Fisher were buried in the Sand Hill Cemetery in Newton Co., AR. Stella had one known daughter.

Harp. Ethel and Coy were buried in the Sand Hill Cemetery in Newton Co. They had five children.

(8.5.6.1) Elizabeth Marie Robinson was stillborn in 1936. She was buried in Sand Hill Cemetery without dates.

(8.5.7.1) Ellen Geneva Adams [Photo with siblings] [Photo with sisters] was born 4 Mar 1938 in Newton Co., AR.  She married Hobert J. Baldwin 15 Aug 1970.  Hobert was born 5 Sep 1920 in London, Laurel Co., KY and died 27 Dec 2005 in Hughson, Stanislaus Co., CA. He was buried in the Lakewood Memorial Cemetery in Hughson.

(8.5.7.4)  Billy Ray Adams was born 22 Feb 1944 in Newton Co., AR and died 22 Dec 1989 in Stanislaus Co., CA.  He married Maria E. Delgado 10 Oct 1973 in Carson City, NV.  Billy was buried in the Lakewood Memorial Cemetery in Hughson, CA.

(8.5.7.7)  Glenna Marie Adams [Photo with siblings] [Photo with sisters] was born 24 Jul 1949 in Newton Co., AR.  She married Daniel Thorsland 27 Apr 1968 in Stanislaus Co., CA.

(8.5.8) Oscar Adams [Sibling list] [Photo with brothers] [Photo with family] was born 22 Feb 1914 in Delve, Newton Co., AR and died 4 Feb 1999 in Dogpatch, Newton Co., Oscar married Doris Lucille Doane 3 Dec 1937 in Newton Co. Doris was born 2 Aug 1914 in Hartington, Nebraska and died 7 Jan 2012 in Jasper, Newton Co., AR at the age of 97. Doris' parents were Charles Hiram Doane and Julia Alice McNeal. Oscar and Doris were buried in the Sand Hill Cemetery, Newton Co. They had four children.

(8.5.11) Cynthia Adams [Sibling list] was born 31 Mar 1922 in Delve, Newton Co., AR and died 29 Jun 1964 in PA. Cynthia married Frank Fisher. Frank was born 1 Aug 1919 and died 1 Feb 1971 in Marion, Crittenden Co., AR.  Cynthia was buried in the Barnegat Memorial Cemetery, Ocean Co., NJ.  They had six children.

(8.5.12) James “Jimmie” Adams [Sibling list] was born 23 Dec 1923 in Delve, Newton Co., AR and died 16 Nov 2004 at home in Harrison, Boone Co., AR. Jimmie married Buna Faye Jones 22 Jun 1947. She was the daughter of Harvey Jones and Drada Edgmon. Buna Faye's sister, Eula Jones, married Jimmie’s brother, Willis Adams. Jimmie worked for Flexsteel and was devoted to gospel singing. Jimmie was buried in the White Church Cemetery in Harrison. He and Buna Faye had three children.

(8.7.1) Floyd Zachary Cox was born 15 Feb 1910 in Harrison, Boone Co., AR and died 19 Aug 1977 in Blackwell, Kay Co., OK. Floyd married Edith Louise Bradford. She was born 5 Mar 1913 in Baron, Adair Co., OK and died 25 Jul 1992 in Blackwell. Edith was the daughter of Thomas “Tom” Jefferson Bradford and Sally Keeter. Floyd and Edith had a daughter. All three were buried in the Blackwell / I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Blackwell.

(8.7.2) Nettie "Caroline" Cox was born 25 Nov 1911 in Harrison, Boone Co., AR and died 19 Jan 2007 in Tulsa, Tulsa Co., OK. Caroline married (1) Haskell P. Whitmire 28 Feb 1932 in Adair Co., OK. Haskell was born 27 Jun 1907 in the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory of Adair Co., OK and died 5 Nov 1941 in Christie, Adair Co., OK. According to the Whitmire Family Tree and OK census records, Haskell was Cherokee. His parents, listed as Indian, were George Getty Whitmire and Lydia Ann "Lidda" Walkingstick. Haskell was killed in a truck accident and was buried in the Whitmire Cemetery in Adair, Co.  Caroline later married (2) Forrest Woods who was born 10 Nov 1903 in Westville, Adair Co., OK and died 16 Dec 1994 in Stilwell, Adair Co., OK. Forrest and Caroline were buried in the Stilwell Cemetery. Caroline had five children, one son and four daughters.

Death of Haskell P. Whitmire
"Just as we go to press, we learn of the death of Haskell WHITMIRE, about 35 years old, well-known Cherokee citizen of the Adielee community who died suddenly Wednesday afternoon. Complete details are not available at this time, but from the best we can learn, he died in a truck near Christie. The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Whitmire."

Nettie Whitmire Woods

Nettie Whitmire Woods was born November 25, 1911 in Harrison, Arkansas to John Cox and Della Claxton Cox.
She departed this life January 19, 2007 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 95.
Preceeding her in death were her parents, two husbands, Haskell Whitmire and Forrest Woods and three brothers, Hugh Cox, Floyd Cox and Woodrow Cox.
She leaves behind one son, Haskell J.G. Whitmire, of Tulsa; four daughters, JoAnne Hardy, of Snohomish, WA, Charlotte Moore, of Chickasha, OK, Della Ann Laughlin and husband, Gearl, of Tulsa, Billie Woods Moore and husband, Bill of Broken Arrow; one sister, Beulah Mae Bradford, of Stilwell, 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and many loved ones and friends.
Services were held Monday, January 22, 2007 at Hart Memorial Chapel with Bro. Darrell Lacie officiating.
Interment followed at Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home

(8.7.3) William “Woodrow” Ranzy Cox [Sibling list] was born 3 Jun 1913 in Harrison, Boone Co., AR and died at the age of 90 on 15 Dec 2003 at the Feather River Hospital in Paradise, CA. He went by “Bill” in CA and by “Woodrow” around family in OK and AR. In CA he owned many fruit and nut trees and spent many hours working in his vegetable garden. At harvest time, he would often give friends and neighbors fresh fruits and vegetables. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing his guitar and banjo at local functions. He was known for his great sense of humor. He worked as a shop foreman at Union Oil Company for 40 years and was a member of Gateway Lodge No. 339. Woodrow was married three times. He married (1) Neomi and (2) Ruth who was the mother of his only child. He married (3) Caroline. Woodrow was cremated and his ashes were spread over his favorite lake near their home in CA.

Debra was from a family of eleven children. Her parents were William H. Sutton and Evangeline Hickok. In 1920, Ranzy and Debra were living in Morris, Okmulgee Co., OK. Ranzy owned a blacksmith shop and Debra was a school teacher. In 1930, they were living in McPherson, KS with a daughter named Mildred. Ranzy was a blacksmith/welder and later became a minister. Debra was a school teacher for 45 years in OK, KS, and MO. They returned to Harrison, AR to retire. Both were buried in the Maplewood Cemetery in Harrison. They had one child.
